Redundancy coaching during maternity leave
Being told your role is at risk while you are on maternity leave is a shock, and it is hard to think clearly when you are also looking after a baby. I have watched maternity leave get quietly reframed as someone else’s opportunity. I have also been made redundant three times in my career, so I know how it feels. My coaching gives you a clear head, a plan and someone to think it through with.
What we work on together
Understanding where you stand and the questions to ask before you respond.
Preparing for consultation meetings, so you say what you mean and keep a record.
Deciding what you want next: the same kind of role, a step up, or a change of career.
Positioning your experience, and your time away, so it works for you when you apply.
What coaching is, and is not. I am a coach, not a lawyer, and nothing here is legal advice. If you are offered a settlement agreement, take independent legal advice before you sign. I help you prepare, decide and move forward.
How to work with me. A Power Hour (£150) gives you 60 minutes on the most urgent question. If you want to plan your next move properly, Career Compass takes you from deciding direction to making the move. Book a free discovery call to talk it through.
Frequently asked questions
What are my rights if I am made redundant on maternity leave?
If your role is at risk during maternity leave, you have the right to be offered any suitable alternative vacancy before other employees. From April 2024 this protection was extended to cover pregnancy and the first 18 months after birth. Check the current detail on gov.uk or with Acas, or take legal advice.
What should I do first?
Take a breath before you respond. Ask for everything in writing, note the dates of any meetings, and do not sign anything until you have taken advice. Then we can work out what you want.
Can coaching help me negotiate my exit?
Coaching helps you prepare: what you want, what to ask for and how to say it. It does not replace legal advice on a settlement agreement, so please get that separately.
What if I do not want the same kind of job again?
That is a common outcome, and a fair one. Redundancy can be the push to think about what you actually want. Career Compass is built for exactly that.
